Alicia Parham
Alicia Parham ( American b.1998) is an interdisciplinary artist and art educator native to North Texas. Her work is centered around themes of neuropsychology and the kinship between our physical bodies with the spaces we traverse.
After a major health diagnosis in 2021, she began recording her experiences with neurological struggles. Using a bespoke EEG brainwave visualization program, Parham interprets the optical ‘floaters’ that interfere with her perception of reality into abstract, dramatic compositions. These compositions are realized as laser-cut organic shapes, interactive video installations, CNC-carved brain waves, and painted plexiglass pieces.
Parham’s work has been shown nationally at the Toledo Museum of Art via Disability Empowerher Network, and regionally at Jupiter Landing, Jupiter House, in Denton, TX, The New Media Contemporary, The Eclectika. In November 2023, Parham opened her debut solo show “Intravenous” at the Paul Vortmens Gallery in Denton, Texas. She is a 2-time national award-winning designer in 2014 and 2019 through the LLS Light the Night National Design Competition. In 2024, her work was recognized by the Dallas Museum of Art as a recipient of the Arch and Ann Giles Award. Parham holds a Master of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas.
