BOTANICA: Contemporary Voices in Nature

Opening Reception:

SATURDAY, July 18, 2026

5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Exhibition on View: July 18 - September 5, 2026

Botanica: Contemporary Voices in Nature brings together artists whose work engages the natural world through abstraction, material exploration, and contemporary interpretations of botanical form. Rather than presenting nature as passive subject matter, the exhibition considers plants, gardens, and organic systems as active spaces of transformation, resilience, and exchange.

Across painting, mixed media, and process-driven practices, the artists draw from patterns of growth, erosion, accumulation, and seasonal change. Leaves, branches, blooms, and shifting landscapes appear not as straightforward representations, but as visual structures through which memory, movement, and interconnectedness are explored.

The exhibition reflects a broader contemporary interest in the relationship between human experience and ecological systems — particularly the tension between cultivation and wildness, permanence and decay, control and adaptation. While grounded in the language of botanicals, the works ultimately move beyond observation into questions of materiality, time, and the evolving ways artists interpret the environment around them.

Together, these varied approaches create a conversation that is both tactile and atmospheric, emphasizing process, surface, and transformation as much as imagery itself. Botanica invites viewers to consider how the natural world continues to inform contemporary artistic practice and shape our understanding of place, change, and connection.

DHV ARTWORKS is pleased to present BOTANICA: Contemporary Voices in Nature, a group exhibition exploring the enduring influence of the natural world on contemporary artistic practice.

Bringing together seven artists working across painting, mixed media, installation, and process-based approaches, BOTANICA examines nature not merely as subject matter, but as a dynamic system of growth, transformation, resilience, and exchange. Throughout the exhibition, botanical forms, landscapes, gardens, and organic structures emerge through abstraction, gesture, materiality, and layered narratives that move beyond direct observation.

The artists draw inspiration from cycles of emergence and decay, the tension between cultivation and wildness, and the interconnected relationships that exist between humans and their environments. Leaves, blooms, branches, shifting terrains, and atmospheric phenomena become visual languages through which memory, identity, time, and place are explored.

Julie England's paintings celebrate the quiet beauty, complexity, and structure of the natural world through richly observed botanical forms, layered compositions, and vibrant color.

Arthur Field’s floral series features archival pigment prints on Photo Rag paper that transform botanical subjects into richly layered abstract compositions, celebrating the beauty, texture, and ephemeral nature of the natural world through a contemporary photographic lens.

Andrea Guay’s luminous abstract landscapes evoke the quiet rhythms of nature through layered color, atmospheric light, and expressive mark-making that capture the emotional essence of place rather than its literal form.

Deborah Hartigan's abstract landscapes and botanically inspired works explore movement, geology, and the elemental forces that shape both land and living systems, translating nature's energy into dynamic fields of color and texture.

Emily Herrera's practice investigates perception, memory, and the experience of nature through layered acrylic substrates that create depth, distortion, and shifting visual revelations, inviting viewers to engage with the work from multiple perspectives.

Brian David Kerr contributes works that reveal the beauty of the natural world through meticulous observation, technical mastery, and a deep appreciation for light, form, and detail.

Janak Narayan engages organic form, materiality, and transformation through a contemporary lens that bridges cultural memory, personal narrative, and environmental awareness.

Gustavo Novoa presents lush botanical and environmental compositions that reflect a lifelong fascination with nature's beauty and fragility. His richly detailed works invite viewers into immersive worlds where flora, fauna, and landscape become reminders of both wonder and stewardship.

Alicia Parham brings a conceptual and process-driven approach to her practice, examining emotion, cognition, and the patterns that connect internal experiences with the natural systems that surround us.
